Affiliate Support Organization

Habitat for Humanity is at work in over 70 countries and over 1,000 communities in the United States. We are the world’s largest non-profit housing developer. Working in many different areas, with many different challenges, we are all One Habitat.

The ASO Model

As an “Affiliate Support Organization” (ASO), Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity is a separately incorporated non-profit organization charged with supporting the work of Habitat for Humanity’s five affiliates in the region. Chicagoland Habitat joins ASOs in 30 states, in strengthening and supporting the work of local Habitat affiliates.

We perform this support function by coordinating regional resource development efforts, coordinating regional marketing and awareness efforts, and providing training, technical assistance, and shared services. Strategic Partnerships

Currently, Illinois has two ASOs: one serving the Chicago metro area, Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity (CHFH), and one serving areas outside the Chicago metro area, Habitat for Humanity of Illinois (HFHIL). To increase the support provided to affiliates across the state, CHFH and HFHIL entered a formal partnership in 2023.
