About Chicagoland Habitat

Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity leverages capacity building, growth, marketing and advocacy by working in collaboration with the seven affiliate locations across Chicagoland.

Summary

Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity (CHFH) is a support organization for the seven Habitat for Humanity affiliate offices in the Chicagoland area with a goal to significantly increase the number of families served in the region. There is a staggering need for housing support in the Chicago metro area and an opportunity for Habitat to do even more than we do today. CHFH was created to leverage capacity building, growth, marketing and advocacy by working in collaboration with the eight affiliate locations across Chicagoland.

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Core Values

Faith

Habitat for Humanity an ecumenical Christian ministry. All who desire to be a part of this work are welcome, regardless of religious preference or background. We have a policy of building with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.

Non-Proselytizing Policy

Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity will not proselytize, nor will we work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat. Chicagoland Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Volunteerism's Long-Term Impact

Habitat affiliates welcome volunteers to build homes, serve on various Board committees, assist at the job sites, work with our dedicated employees at ReStores, fundraise through various means and donate supplies and money. Chicagoland Habitat welcomes volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors and committees. Volunteers find their experience very rewarding.

Stewardship

We are committed to the highest level of accountability to our donors, partner families and communities.  We use donor funds efficiently and wisely, which creates a high degree of trust among our donor community.

Inclusiveness

We value and embrace diversity through all aspects of our organization.

Ethical Leadership

We value the dedication of our Board of Directors and staff.  We hold them to the highest ethical standards as they work to achieve our mission.

Innovation

We encourage and embrace innovative practices.

Partnership

We value our partnership with Habitat for Humanity International and actively support its global mission.

Strategic Partnerships

Currently, Illinois has two ASOs: one serving the Chicago metro area, Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity (CHFH), and one serving areas outside the Chicago metro area, Habitat for Humanity of Illinois (HFHIL). To increase the support provided to affiliates across the state, CHFH and HFHIL entered a formal partnership in 2023. As part of this partnership, a Manager of Statewide Support (MSS) was hired to provide direct support and technical assistance to affiliates outside the Chicago metro region in January 2024. The MSS works closely with the staff at CHFH and the HFHIL Board of Directors to spread best practices to all Illinois affiliates.
