About

Building a Stronger Illinois, Together

Habitat for Humanity of Illinois is the Affiliate Support Organization for 32 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Greater Illinois and Chicagoland. We exist to strengthen the capacity of local Habitat organizations so more families can access safe, affordable homeownership and critical home repair services in the communities they call home.

By bringing together two Affiliate Support Organizations – Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity and Habitat for Humanity of Illinois – into a single statewide entity in 2026, Habitat Illinois creates a more unified, coordinated, and effective support system for local affiliates. Through advocacy, training, resource development, strategic partnerships, and operational support, we help local Habitats expand their impact while preserving the trusted relationships they have built within their communities.

Illinois families face growing barriers to affordable homeownership. Rising housing costs, limited inventory, and increasing development challenges require stronger collaboration and greater statewide coordination. Habitat Illinois meets this moment—building the infrastructure, partnerships, and resources needed to support affiliates today while preparing for the future of affordable housing.

Working alongside local Habitat affiliates, volunteers, donors, corporate partners, and community leaders, we are helping create more opportunities for families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership.

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

All Are Welcome

Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

Non-Proselytizing Policy

As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
